Moot Court is an artificial Court which is especially made for the law students to have the practical knowledge of drafting, pleading and conveyancing. One of our key focus has been to acquaint and encourage the students to continue and maintain the moot court practice and culture, SUCL students have moot court training classes every day after the class schedule.
Mooting can best be described as an activity that comes closest to being a lawyer while still studying at law school. A moot court is a role-play of an appeals court or Supreme Court hearing. The court, composed of a panel of justices, is asked to rule on a lower court’s decision. Moot courts help our students to focus attention on the practical aspects of court practice and arguments.
No witnesses are called nor or are the basic facts in a case disputed. Arguments are prepared and presented on a legal question (e.g., the constitutionality of a law or government action). SUCL Moot Court committee is entrusted with the responsibility of organizing, administering all moot related activities, thereby ensuring students are trained extensively.
Justice to all and free legal aid to the poor and weaker sections of the society is encompassed in Article 39A of the Constitution of India. Enactment of legislations in various spheres does not serve any purpose unless the public are made aware of its existence. Creating awareness plays a vital role in the successful implementation of any law. Even today there are places in our country that do not have any access to basic amenities and a large chunk of the population especially the economically weaker section are ignorant of any legal remedies available to them. The disadvantaged sections of society may also not be aware of the process by which they can secure certain benefits that are provided to them by the State. The intricacies involved in law are cumbersome to such an extent that even people with resources might not understand it in its entirety.
Educating people as regards their rights, duties and the remedies available is of utmost importance. Law Colleges play an important role in molding the future legal professionals of the country. While getting educated on the theory of various law subjects, the students can also acquire the practical aspect as to the applicability of these laws by way of being part of the Legal Aid Clinics. Taking this into account, Legal Aid Clinics are constituted in law Colleges for providing legal advice to the general public and also to create legal awareness. These legal aid clinics are service oriented. Legal aid clinics have twin objectives i.e., to provide free legal services to economically weaker sections of society and to channelize the students of law in contributing to the society. We at SUCL believe in providing free legal service to the underprivileged and create legal understanding among them. The Legal Aid Clinic at Sultan Ul Uloom College was launched a decade ago with the sole motive to serve the downtrodden with appropriate legal aid and create legal awareness. Through this clinic students get the opportunity to interact with real clients with real legal problems.
