Ghulam Ahmed College of Education was established in the year 1985 with the mission of providing quality education to trainee teachers through the B.Ed. and M.Ed. courses. The college is named after late Mr.Ghulam Ahmed, who served as the Hon.Secretary of Sultan-Ul-Uloom Education Society for 16 years. Late Mr.Ghulam Ahmed was a famous off spin bowler and he captained India in Test cricket. After his retirement, he served for many years as the secretary of BCCI.
The B.Ed. and M.Ed. courses in the College are affiliated to the Osmania University. The National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE) has accorded its recognition to it. With a view to improve the quality of education, the Teacher Training Courses of the college were accredited by the National Assessment & Accreditation Council for the first time in the year, 2009. The college went in for the third cycle of reaccreditation by the National Accreditation and Assessment Council of India in the year 2022-23. It was awarded A+ Grade with a score of 3.43.
Along with a sound theoretical knowledge, the students are given a wide exposure to practical work. The B.Ed. students are sent to various schools of the city for their teaching practice programme for 120 days. The M.Ed. students take up research in different areas related to education.
The results of the College are exceptionally good. 6 of the College students (3 of B.Ed. and 3 of M.Ed.) secured the 1st rank in the University in the past years. Every year, in the merit list of the first ten ranks of Osmania University, many are secured by the students of the College.
The pass percentage of the B.Ed., and M.Ed., course students was 100% in the years 2018-20.

Prof. Vibha Asthana possesses more than three and a half decades of experience in the field of teacher education. An academic achiever throughout, she acquired her Doctorate in Education from Osmania University, secured 1st Rank in the M.Ed. course and 3rd rank in the B.Ed. Course. Further, she has to her credit two additional degrees, M.A.(Sociology) and LL.B. Her quest for knowledge made her present and publish several papers in International and National educational journals. Prof.Asthana organized many Seminars, Webinars and Workshops in the field of education. She participated in various capacities in Panel discussions & Conferences at the State and National levels. Prof.Asthana also guided several postgraduate students in their research work. As an incumbent member of the Board of Studies of Higher education, Osmania University, Prof.Asthana contributed to bringing about positive changes in the Curriculum of the M.Ed. course.Her goal is to ensure that teachers implement evidence-based pedagogical approaches in schools to strengthen 21st-century skills, including critical thinking and creativity.

2. ‘Emerging Skills and Practices in Education – In Post Pandemic Times’, a paper published in the International Journal of Science, Technology and Management, (A Peer-Reviewed and Referred Journal), April 2021.
3. Presented a Paper on 'Competency-Based System of Teaching and Learning’ in the One-day International E-Conference organized by Institute of Professional Excellence & Management (IPEM), Ghaziabad, on 18-3-2021.
4. Presented a paper at an International Conference on the topic‘Multi-Dimensional approach- the key to Effective Education for Secondary School children’,organized by ‘Multi-Disciplinary Approaches in Humanities, Management and Sciences', held on 30-4-2021 at Sri Ramasamy Naidu Memorial College, Tamil Nadu.
5. 'Effective handling of children's mental health during the pandemic- duties and responsibilities of parents', a chapter written in the book titled- ‘Teacher Education Generation Next- Perspectives, Opportunities and Challenges’.
The college was accredited by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council in the year 2009. Then it went for reaccreditation in the year 2017. The college was awarded B++ Grade with a Score of 2.8. The college was reaccredited (3rd Cycle) by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council in the year 2023. It was awarded A+ Grade with a Score of 3.43.
GACE is located in the heart of the city and is housed in a spacious, well-ventilated building. It is housed in a sprawling green, beautiful campus with beautiful gardens. It has a state-of-the-art library and well-equipped laboratories to cater to the students of the B.Ed. and M.Ed.courses. The college has a ramp near the entrance and lift facility to cater to the needs of specially-abled students of the college. Biometric machines that are Aadhar linked are installed to maintain regularity and punctuality in the students. Safe drinking water (RO Coolers) are installed on every floor in the college. The campus has many security personnel and CCTV cameras that have been put up in strategic places to ensure the safety and security of the students and staff.
The college has faculty members strictly as per the norms of the NCTE. Without any shadow of a doubt, it is the members of the teaching faculty who are responsible to impart quality education to the students and in turn lead to their progress. The highly qualified and experienced faculty of the college is its greatest asset. They contribute to the overall professional and personal growth of the students. The faculty members are constantly upgrading their qualifications and, in the process, winning laurels for themselves and the college. They publish research articles regularly in National and International journals. They author books, contribute chapters, deliver lectures, present papers in National and International conferences and seminars regularly.
